Research Undertaken on Southern Moreton Bay Island

Each year Global Community Resourcing (GCR) hosts students from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to undertake internships as part of their studies.

Over the coming months GCR will host two students who are in their final semester at university, both of which study a Bachelor of Nutritional Science. Aaron and Bella are focusing their placement activities on the areas of food security and digital literacy amongst residents of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands (SMBI). The research they will be conducting will be a valuable contribution towards some of GCRs ongoing projects, including the Community Care Smart Assistive Technology Collaboration.

On Monday the 24th of August Aaron and Bella will be spending time on both Macleay and Karragarra Islands. Here they will speak with residents and local businesses to gain an insight into how they feel about the availability of fresh fruit, vegetables and other groceries on the islands, as well as the level of use and understanding of technology.

Over the duration of their internship they will meet with other business in the Redlands area and continue to spend time on the remaining SMBI in order to better identify what services and programs could be implemented to better assist the community.

We are looking forward to seeing the outcomes of their project!
