For the past few years (2021-23) Aged Care Industry Information Technology Council (ACIITC) has been investigating the use of clinical care software systems in residential aged care facilities. Global Community Resourcing project managed and delivered this research project for ACIITC.
The research has now been released in a report titled "Residential Aged Care Facilities Use of Clinical Care Software". The report not only highlights the challenges and barriers faced by residential aged care providers when adopting clinical care software but also underscores the promising opportunities for improving the care of older Australians through enhanced data collection, care planning, and overall quality of care.
The research addresses several areas, including the diversity of existing technology in these facilities, the external use of clinical care software, integration with My Health Record, and the strategies that aged care providers are thinking of using for future innovation and technology.
Throughout the report, many opportunities for improved adoption of clinical care software are identified. This includes advocating for the use of consistent terminology and data sets to enhance data collection and stressing the need for improved care planning involving all professionals engaged in the care of older Australians. This research sheds light on the vital role that technology and standardised practices can play in improving the care provided to older Australians and their families.
